Description

Born and raised in Kenya, Wambui Gachunga’s journey led her to the University of Oklahoma, where she earned her undergraduate degree in Biomedical Engineering (BME). Today, she is a Ph.D. student in BME at the University of Florida, dedicating her research to uncovering the complexities of women’s health issues and tackling health disparities—a mission deeply ingrained in her heart. Living with endometriosis, Wambui is intimately familiar with the silent struggle many women face.
Endometriosis inflicts relentless, agonizing pain that feels like shards of glass slicing through the abdomen, often leaving women incapacitated. This pain profoundly disrupts daily life, making even the simplest tasks excruciatingly difficult. The condition can lead to infertility, chronic stress, fatigue, and severe depression, casting a long, dark shadow over women’s lives. These personal challenges fuel her determination to advocate for increased awareness and support surrounding women’s health challenges.
Now residing in Florida, Wambui is leveraging her knowledge and platform, EndoAware, to illuminate the harrowing realities of endometriosis. With unwavering passion and resilience, she is committed to empowering women, educating communities, and inspiring societal change. Her participation in Miss Kenya USA 2024 is part of her campaign to shatter the silence and stigma associated with this condition. Wambui envisions a world where women’s health is a priority, and conditions like endometriosis are met with empathy, comprehensive understanding, and effective treatment.
